Find your organisation
Search the directory by name. Most Indian NGOs are already here — we imported the public registries, so you probably didn't have to do anything to be listed.

Tell us you represent it
Create a free account and open your organisation's page, then use Claim this page. You'll be asked for your role (founder, director, trustee) and for documents that show you speak for the organisation.

A reviewer approves the claim
A Mitr reviewer checks the documents against the listing. Once approved, the page is yours: you can edit it, post updates, and it moves from Registered to Verified.
What you get
Correct your public record
Registry data is often years out of date — wrong address, dead phone number, no description. Right now that record is what people find. Claiming it lets you fix it.
Be found by cause and city
A claimed, complete profile appears in the city and cause pages people actually search — "NGOs in Lucknow", "education NGOs in India" — instead of sitting in a list of 1.6 lakh.
Earn a trust level
Claimed pages are scored on verification, confirmed impact, community, transparency and activity. The level is visible on your profile and it's earned, not sold.
Show a badge on your own site
Claimed organisations get an embeddable badge that links back to their Mitr profile — a live, checkable trust signal for donors landing on your own website.
Log work that gets confirmed
Volunteers log hours against your organisation and you confirm them. Confirmed work builds a track record no one can inflate — including you.
Hear about local concerns
When someone reports a civic issue in your area that matches what you work on, matched organisations get alerted.
What it costs
Nothing. Being listed is free, claiming is free, verification is free, and the badge is free. Mitr does not sell placement, ranking or trust levels — there is no paid tier, and no one at Mitr can move you up for money. If anyone offers to sell you a Mitr trust level, they are not us.
Where you stand today
Of 1,61,203 organisations listed, 16,795 have a detailed profile published — and only a handful have been claimed by the people who run them. If yours is one of the unclaimed ones, the page about you is currently written entirely by a government spreadsheet. That's the gap this page exists to close. See exactly how verification works.
Questions NGOs ask us
Why is my NGO on Mitr without my permission?
Because it's on the public record. Mitr lists 1,61,203 organisations imported from India's official registries — NITI Aayog's Darpan and state portals — which are public by design. We didn't create information about your organisation; we made the existing public record easier to search. Claiming the page is how you take control of what it says.
What does it cost?
Nothing. Listing, claiming, verification and the badge are all free. Mitr does not sell placement, ranking or trust levels, and there is no paid tier to buy your way up.
What documents do I need to claim a page?
Something that shows you represent the organisation — a registration certificate, a letter on your organisation's letterhead, or an ID showing your role. You submit them with the claim and a reviewer checks them against the listing.
The information about my NGO is wrong. Can I fix it?
Yes — that's the main reason to claim the page. Registry data is often stale. Once your claim is approved you can edit the description, contact details, focus areas, address, founding year and registration number yourself.
Can I have my organisation removed?
Get in touch and tell us why. The underlying data is a public government record, so removal doesn't erase it from the registries — but we would rather you claimed the page and corrected it than left a stale record standing.
How long does approval take?
A reviewer looks at each claim by hand, so it isn't instant. You'll be emailed when it's approved, or told what's missing if it isn't.
